Teacher Beheaded, France Will Expel 231 Radical Foreigners

PARIS – Officials French plans to expel 231 foreigners who were radicalized in a crackdown after one the teacher was beheaded in what was deemed a terrorist act last Friday.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said he intended to move quickly to respond to the murder of Samuel Paty, a history teacher who was beheaded after showing Prophet Muhammad cartoon in class when discussing freedom of expression. President Emmanuel Macron called the brutal killings an “Islamic terrorist attack.” The perpetrator of the beheading was Abdoulakh A., 18, an ethnic Chechen, Russian, who had lived in France with his family for a long time. The perpetrator has been shot and killed by police.

Citing reports Europe 1Monday (10/19/2020), the main response to the attack included the deportation of 231 foreigners in the File of Alerts for the Prevention of Terrorist Attacks (FSPRT), which tracks radical activity.

Darmanin had planned to expel the men, having traveled to Morocco the previous week to ask the government to accept nine of his radical citizens. According to officials, the list includes 180 people currently in prison and 51 others who will be arrested soon. More than 850 illegal immigrants are registered with the FSPRT.

French authorities have arrested 11 people in connection with the teacher’s murder. However, it is unclear whether the 11 people are also part of the list of people to be expelled.

Four close relatives of the beheading suspect were detained shortly after the attack. Six more people were detained on Saturday, including the father of a student at the school and a preacher described by French media as a radical Islamist.

Darmanin also plans to focus on questions about asylum rights. He asked his ministry to more closely examine people wishing to obtain refugee status in France. (Read: Teacher beheading for cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad was the birth of Chechnya)

The perpetrator was found not far from the victim with a knife. After refusing to drop his gun, the police shot and killed him.

French counter-terrorism prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard said a text claiming responsibility for the attack and a photo of the victim were found on the perpetrator’s phone. The photo of Paty’s decapitated head was posted on the perpetrator’s Twitter account.

“I executed one of the dogs from hell who dared to humiliate (Prophet) Muhammad,” read the photo upload.
