Teacher arrested for sexual harassment of a student in Queens, New York

Shannon Hall, a high school teacher in Queens (NYC), was arrested this week for allegedly sending explicit text messages to a student, authorities said.

Hall, 31, teaches at the Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences on Gothic Drive in the Jamaica Hills neighborhood, She was arrested Thursday shortly before 6 pm and charged with sending inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old student, police said.

The messages caused “annoyance and alarm” in the teenager, the police said. Hall was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and aggravated harassment, reported New York Post.

“This so-called behavior is completely unacceptable and will be thoroughly investigated,” said a spokesman for the Department of Education (DOE) of the city in a statement. “This employee has been reassigned away from the school and students pending the outcome of her arrest and, if she is found guilty, we will seek her dismissal. There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our students.”
