The inaugural season of TCR South America enters the final stretch with the penultimate date of the year, at the Óscar Cabalén Racetrack in Córdoba. It will be a key weekend to define the applicants for the title and even decree the champion of the Trophy Cup.
After six dates, the tournament is very fought since the championship began in Interlagos (Brazil). Those in the lead are the three drivers who won three races: Spaniard Pepe Oriola (Honda) leads, followed by Brazilians Digo Baptista (Audi) to just eight points and Raphael Reis (Honda), the only driver to score in all the races of the year and winner of the last one, in Buenos Aires.
Cabalén’s race marks Peugeot’s debut in TCR South America, with Ernesto Bessone at the wheel of PMO Racing. Other novelties are the returns of the Uruguayan Santiago Urrutia and the Brazilian Valdeno Brito. Winner of a race in Rivera (Uruguay), Urrutia takes up a PMO Motorsport Lynk & Co identical to the one he drives in the WTCR. In turn, Brito, who excelled in the first endurance race, in Curitiba with Reis, will now take the Alfa Romeo from PropCar Racing.
In the Trophy Cup, Adalberto Baptista is the leader with Cobra Racing’s Audi # 10. The Brazilian has a 62-point lead and could leave Córdoba as champion.
In the only training session held this Friday, Fabricio Pezzini with Lynk & Co got the best, scoring 1.33.786. Behind, Oriola and Reis placed second and third respectively with the Honda Civics of the W2 Pro GP. The five of the day were completed with the Lynk & Co of Urrutia and the Peugeot 308 TCR of Ernesto Bessone.
After passing through the Cabalén racetrack, the TCR South America will depart for Entre Ríos, for the coronation date in Concepción del Uruguay, on December 18 and 19.
