The Chinese company TCL is known in our region mainly for its television, which it promotes, for example, in cooperation with the Czech national football team. Less well known is TCL for the production of smartphones, which does not mean that it has nothing to offer.
In April of this year, the Chinese boasted a smartphone TCL Fold’n Rollwhich not only bent but also stretched. At that time, we could not yet see a working prototype, so it was speculated that the Fold’n Roll would not remain only on paper. At the DTC 2021 Technology Congress, however, TCL surprised everyone present with a functional prototype device.
TCL Fold’n Roll boasts a display size of 6.87 “, after opening 8.85” and when the left panel is extended, the display area stops at 10 inches. Server Device Specifications speculates on the use of OLED technology, a resolution of 5120 x 1440 pixels, a maximum brightness of 1000 nits and a refresh rate between 48-240 Hz. If this information is confirmed, Samsung would get a good competitor. Unfortunately, we have no further information about the other specifications.
The functional prototype TCL Fold’n Roll takes your breath away
Although TCL has shown a working prototype of the Fold’n Roll flexible smartphone, it is still a long way from mass production. Unconventional construction will certainly not be easy to produce and the final price can climb very high. Compared to Samsung, which in the last generation Galaxy Z Fold 3 a Flip 3 able to reduce the price to the level of classic flagships, TCL Fold’n Roll would not be easy.
