– This is the second time my music is sold without me being informed, says Taylor Swift.
American singer Taylor Swift confirms that music mogul Scooter Braun has sold the rights to her first six albums.
– As you know, in the last year I have actively tried to regain the rights to my music catalog, Swift writes on Twitter.
It was in 2019 that Scooter Braun bought the record company «Big Machine Records». It was Taylor’s old record label, before she switched to “Universal Music Group”. With the sale of the record company came Taylor’s first six albums, what she calls “her musical heritage”.
This prevented her from owning a large part of her own music catalog.
But now Scooter Braun is said to have sold the rights to the music catalog to an investment fund, writes BBC.
According to the BBC, the deal will be worth more than 300 million dollars.
And on Twitter, Swift clearly states:
– This is the second time my music is sold without me being informed.
In a statement, the pop star writes that she and her team have tried to enter into a dialogue with Braun to negotiate the catalog.
She further writes that Braun’s legal team wanted her to sign a confidentiality agreement that she would never say a word about Scooter Braun again, unless it was positive.
The BBC has sent an inquiry to Braun, but he has not commented on the matter anywhere.
Finally, Swift writes on Twitter that she has started recording her old hits again in order to own them.
– It is both exciting and creative and meaningful.
