Taylor Swift surprised her fans with a double album – 2024-04-21 06:44:45

Each Taylor Swift album is not just a musical event, but an imprint in pop culture. Today’s premiere of her 11th studio project, titled The Tortured Poets Department, brought fans a midnight surprise – a 31-song double album.

Taylor Swift initially released 16 new tracks and later in the night shared an additional 15-track album titled TTPD: The Anthology.

The Tortured Poets Department proved Swift as a skilled songwriter and artist willing to take risks at a time when pop music preferred to avoid them. With her last 10 albums, the star has unlocked secrets from her personal life and created some of pop’s most memorable songs.

The first 16-track record reflects Taylor’s thoughts in their truest form, full of drama and controversy. The Tortured Poets Department rediscovers themes of inner conflict and emotional complexity, and in the lyrics you’ll find a chaotic stream of consciousness in which Swift moves through moments of longing and anger.

On the occasion of the release of the album, Swift said that it is “an anthology of new works that reflect the events, views and feelings of a fleeting and fateful moment in time. A moment that was both happy and painful in equal measure.”

“This period of the author’s life has already ended, the page is closed. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle after the wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a lot of it turned out to be self-inflicted,” Taylor Swift wrote on Instagram.

“This writer firmly believes that our tears become sacred as ink on a page. Once we have told our saddest story, we can let go of it. And then all that is left behind is the suffering poetry.”

The songs on which Swift chose to include her colleagues are some of the album’s highlights.

Eighth track ‘Florida!!!’, featuring Florence + the Machine, is a fusion of two unique voices – Florence Welch’s signature singing style complements Swift’s vocal range on a melodic track.

Post Malone joins the album’s lead single “Fortnight,” for which an official video will be released later Friday.

The second part of the collection, “Anthology”, includes the previously announced vinyl-exclusive bonus tracks “The Black Dog”, “The Albatross”, “The Bolter” and “The Manuscript”, as well as a host of new ones.

The Tortured Poets Department comes off the heels of Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour and is on track to exceed sales and streaming expectations. According to Spotify, on Thursday the album became the most downloaded record in the history of the platform.
