The popstar has just achieved “her number one goal”.
Purple dress and traditional hat on her head, Taylor Swift – on May 18 – received an honorary doctorate from New York University. The young artist was named ” Dr Taylor Swift » after receiving a doctorate in fine arts. Invited to give the keynote address to the graduates of 2022, the interpreter of Blank Space said: “ I would like to thank NYU for technically, on paper at least, making me a doctor.”
She continues: “I’m not the type of doctor you want to have in an emergency, unless your specific emergency is that you desperately need to hear a song with a catchy chorus and an intensely cathartic bridge”. In her speech, Swift admits to regretting not having had a college experience: “I went to a public high school up to second and finished my schooling doing my homework sitting on the floors of airport terminals. Then I hit the road for a radio tour, which sounds incredibly glamorous but in reality consisted of a rental car and motels. My mom and I pretended to have a loud mother-daughter argument during boarding so no one would want the empty seat between us on Southwest.”
“As a child, I always thought I would go to university. I imagined the posters I would hang on the wall of my freshman dorm. I even set the end of the music video for my song “Love Story” to my imaginary college, where I meet a model reading a book on the grass and with one look we realize we’ve been in love in our past lives. That’s exactly what you’ve all experienced at some point in the past four years, right? »
“But I really can’t complain about not having a normal college experience because you went to NYU during a global pandemic, basically being locked in your dorms or having to take classes via Zoom . Normally everyone at university is concerned about test results, but on top of that you had to take around 1,000 COVID tests. I guess the idea of a normal college experience was all you wanted too. You and I have learned that we won’t always get everything we want from the menu of the delivery service that is life. We get what we are given. Today you leave New York University and go out into the world in search of what is to come. And I will do the same. »
