Taylor Swift has become the center of a climate riot. The American singer has emitted the most CO2 of a whole series of celebrities with her private jet so far this year, a British marketing company recently calculated.

Between January and July, the singer’s plane took off 170 times, which amounts to 15.9 full days of flying. The emissions of the device thus amounted to about 8,000 tons of CO2, more than a thousand times the emissions of an average citizen per year.

On average, the device was on the road for about 80 minutes. Artist’s spokespersons contradict the calculation in music sheet Rolling Stone. According to them, Swift regularly lends the aircraft and is therefore not personally responsible for all 170 flight movements and the associated emissions.

Marketing firm Yard prepared its report after social media outcry over influencer Kylie Jenner’s emissions. It was recently revealed that the Kardashian scion had used her private jet for a fun 12-minute flight. It was a flight between the airports of Camarillo and Van Nuys in California. By car that would have been a journey of about 40 minutes.

Many online wondered what the point of living more sustainably as individuals, when celebrities cause tons of emissions with their planes. Jenner was therefore labeled ‘climate criminal‘.

Jenner did not make the top 10 of Yard’s list, by the way. Boxer Floyd Mayweather’s emissions were good for second place, hip-hop artist Jay-Z finished with his jet in third place.

For the report, Yard looked at data from the automated Twitter account Celebrity Jets. That keeps track of the flight movements of private jets of all kinds of celebrities. To calculate the average emissions, the company used data from the British Ministry of Transport.

Swift started in country music at a young age. Her career took off when she released the pop album in 2014 1989 released, with hits like Shake It Off in Blank Space.
