Taylor Swift London concert tickets rise by 2000%: exorbitant prices

Taylor Swift’s sudden cancellation of her Vienna concerts has shaken up the ticket resale market for her upcoming London events. Following the announcement, ticket prices on sites such as Viagogo and Stubhub have skyrocketed, reaching astronomical figures.

Swifties hoping to attend the American singer’s concerts at Wembley Stadium are now facing prices that have risen by up to 2000%, with general standing tickets originally costing £110 now selling for up to £6,515.

Swifties affected by cancellations want to go no matter what

Ticket prices for Taylor Swift’s London concerts have risen so much mainly for two reasons: high demand and a shortage of available tickets after her two concerts in Vienna were cancelled.

When it was announced that the shows in the Austrian capital would not take place for safety reasons, many of her fans began looking for alternatives to see her live, and London was one of the closest options.

This increase in demand has coincided with a very limited number of tickets available, which has driven up prices on resale portals. In addition, as is often the case in these cases, resellers take advantage to raise prices and make maximum profit, knowing that there are swifties willing to pay much more to guarantee their attendance at the singer’s shows.

Maximum security in London

Taylor Swift fans are moving heaven and earth to get to Wembley after concerts scheduled for August 8-10 at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel Stadium were cancelled due to the threat of a terror attack planned by three teenagers radicalised by a hate preacher in Berlin.

According to German intelligence sources, they had obtained a vehicle equipped with a flashing blue light and a siren. The plan was to approach the Ernst Happel Stadium under the guise of an emergency vehicle. Once close, the attackers intended to run over concert-goers before exiting the vehicle to attack people with knives and machetes, and finally blow themselves up.

In response to the cancellation, Taylor Swift has confirmed that her London shows will go ahead with heightened security measures. The Metropolitan Police have increased precautions, including metal detectors and intensive cooperation with event security teams. A spokesperson said there was no indication that the incidents investigated by Austrian authorities would affect the London shows, and that they would continue to carefully review any new information.

The London Mayor’s office has also reaffirmed its ability to manage large-scale events safely. Mayor Sadiq Khan has highlighted the city’s experience in managing large events and cited lessons learned following the Manchester Arena attack. He has also assured that, despite the situation in Vienna, concerts in London will go ahead with all necessary safety measures.
