“It’s incredible. The fact that this is a fan-voted award means a lot to me,” Swift said in her acceptance speech.
“I can’t believe it was a year ago when I announced the ‘Midnights’ album,” she added.
The ceremony, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, was very much Swift’s night from the get-go.
The night’s first award presenters, NSYNC, presented Swift with the award for Best Pop Music Video.
Swift later returned to the stage to accept the award for best song for “Anti-Hero” as well as the award for best director.
Rapper Ice Spice, with whom Swift collaborated on the song “Karma (Remix),” won best new artist.
The “Best Afrobeat” award went to Rema and Selena Gomez for their massive hit “Calm Down”.
Colombian singer Shakira was honored with the video avant-garde award.
Rapper Diddy was honored with the Global Icon Award. He is only the third recipient of this award. Previously, it was received by the groups “Red Hot Chili Peppers” and “Foo Fighters”.
The best K-pop award went to the band “Stray Kids”, and the best Latin American music award went to the Brazilian singer Anita.
