SZA follows with six nominations and Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith all have five chances. All these artists compete against each other in the main Video of the Year category. Swift is nominated for ‘Anti-Hero’, Doja Cat for ‘Attention’, Cyrus for ‘Flowers’, Minaj for ‘Super Freaky Girl’, Rodrigo for ‘Vampire’, SZA for ‘Kill Bill’ and Smith and Petras for ‘ Unholy’.
Swift may make history at the ceremony by becoming the most awarded artist ever. To do so, she must cash in at least six of her eight nominations. The singer currently has 14 VMAs in her closet. She is just behind Beyoncé (16) and Madonna (20). Swift could also become the first artist to win Video of the Year four times.
The VMAs will be awarded on September 12 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
