After accusations of plagiarism from an African-American brand, the American singer apologized publicly on her Twitter account. She allegedly plagiarized the logo of a company named “The Folklore” for products derived from her latest album, “Folklore”.
This Thursday, July 30, the American singer Taylor Swift apologized publicly to an African-American entrepreneur, named Amira Rasool. The latter accused the interpreter of “Shake it Off” of plagiarizing the logo of his company “The Folklore” on behalf of his latest album, “folklore.”This morning I learned that musician Taylor Swift was selling clothes to accompany her new album “folklore”, she announced. “She currently sells items with the words ‘The Folklore’ printed on them. Given the similarities in design, I think the creator of these pieces plagiarized my company logo.“, she explained.”I’m sharing my story to shine a light on the trend for big business and celebrities to copy the work of small minority business owners“, she specified. After having drawn such a report, Amira Rasool wrote a letter to the artist with her lawyer.
Following these accusations, Taylor Swift wrote a response to the woman on her Twitter account to express her apologies. “Amira, I admire the work you do and I’m happy to donate to your business and support the Black Fashion Council (a Council aiming to establish an index of equality in the world of fashion and whose launch is scheduled for the beginning of August), “she wrote.
The singer’s team also removed the “The”, which preceded the album title “Folklore”, from all merchandise. Taylor Swift’s donation to the company should in any case allow the entrepreneur to cover the damage.
