Taylor Fritz beat Frances Tiafoe 4:6, 7:5, 4:6, 6:4, 6:1 in New York and is in a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old has the chance on Sunday to become the first male American to win the US Open since Andy Roddick 21 years ago.
On the other hand, Tiafoe failed just before the final for the second time in two years. In 2022, he had already lost his first US Open semi-final against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.

Tiafoe, who played spectacularly and had the fans on his side, turned a 0:3 deficit in the first set, wobbled in the second set, but did not let that slow him down and won the third set again. Fritz secured one of the key points of the match: with the score at 3:3 in the fourth set, he fought his opponent down, the ball went over the net 31 times, and in the end Tiafoe simply stood there, exhausted. Tiafoe could not go on and was 0:4 behind in the deciding set. Fritz put the final point with an ace after 3:18 hours.

Sinner aims for second Grand Slam title
Before that, world number one Jannik Sinner had won with plenty of drama against Briton Jack Draper 7:5, 7:6 (7:3), 6:2. Draper held up well at times in the biggest match of his career, but was visibly affected and played too inconsistently. In total, he made ten double faults. Before this match, he had not lost a single set in the tournament.
In the second set, the 22-year-old was obviously not feeling well; he vomited several times and then cleaned the court with a towel. Draper tried to cool himself down when changing sides by putting ice towels around his neck and thighs and using cold air from a hose.

Sinner also had problems. When running back at 4:4 in the second set, he fell on his left wrist and had to be treated like Draper. The injury did not seem to affect him much, however. In the third set, he won the last four games in a row and converted his first match point after 3 hours and 3 minutes.

September 7, 2005: Swiss football fans collectively throw up their hands. In Cyprus, Pascal Zuberbühler has yet another unbelievable flop in the World Cup qualifiers – just four days after a blunder against Israel.
Pascal Zuberbühler has been highly controversial throughout his career in the Swiss national team. On the one hand, this has to do with the fact that the Thurgau native plays for GC and FC Basel, the two most successful but also most hated clubs in the country. On the other hand, people don’t like “Zubi” because he is not a man of soft words; he often seems arrogant. And last but not least, he is controversial because he always cuts an unfortunate figure when conceding goals.
