Taylor Fritz beat Frances Tiafoe to reach US Open final

At Arthur Ashe Stadium, American Fritz beat his compatriot in five sets and will decide the last Grand Slam of the year against Sinner, the world number one.

Taylor Fritz defeated Frances Tiafoe in the American duel that took place at Arthur Ashe Stadium and made it to the final of the 2024 US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season.

Fritz managed to turn the match around to win in five sets with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 and will play his first Grand Slam final against Italian Jannik Sinner, world number one, who in the first semi-final defeated British Jack Draper by 7-5, 7-6 and 6-2.

Tiafoe, for his part, had already raised this level at the 2022 US Open when he fell to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.

Fritz had started the tournament in a very solid manner, beating the Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli in three sets (7-5, 6-1 and 6-2), while in the second round he beat the Italian Matteo Berrettini also without losing a set (6-3, 7-6 and 6-1).

On the third day, the American faced an Argentine again, in this case Francisco Comesaña, whom he eliminated with a categorical 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2; then in the round of 16 he faced Casper Ruud, who managed to take a set from him before falling 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2.

Meanwhile, in his last quarter-final appearance, Fritz defeated German Alexander Zverev in a tough match that was decided in four sets with scores of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 and 7-6.
