Taxi fight in Madrid: “Ángel Garrido, we don’t want your thanks”

Taxi fight in Madrid: «Ángel Garrido, we do not want your thanks, while giving Uber a public contract»

«We cannot continue living on our knees, on July 30, a concentration of taxi drivers before the Madrid City Council»

This is the slogan prepared for the Madrid taxi protest call on June 30.

The demonstration scheduled for last Thursday the 25th had to be postponed because the Government Delegation did not allow the mobilization for that day.

In the dilemma of whether or not it is the moment of such a concentration, there are different opinions, but the taxi driver from Madrid, Mariluz, from the Taxi Project 2.0 Pressure Group is clear:

“Many argue that this is not the time, because I would like them to answer me: When do you think the time is? Because when you cannot maintain your dignity with your work, I think that it is the right moment to claim your rights.

Or do we better wait to starve without fighting? Shall we continue begging for the stops then? I would like some of those who hold that position to give me the ideal date to protest, the perfect one, the exact one ».

The Madrid taxi has been enduring the mistreatment of the community government and the City Council for too long.

«I would allow myself the luxury of taking the thank you letters and stickers that Mr. Ángel Garrido has sent to each and every taxi driver and depositing them all together in a garbage bag to return them to him… and I would also take this opportunity to explain to the opinion public that while us and taxi drivers give a sticker to Uber who takes the money to a tax haven, gives him a public contract ».

The “regulator” Ángel Garrido

The Community of Madrid has not fulfilled its obligation established in Decree Law 13/2018 for two years, which has to establish the pre-contracting conditions, the request for services, the minimum routes, or the technical specifications of the vehicle.

During all this time the Community has refused to apply the regulations and continues to propose a coexistence between equals, between VTC and Taxi, when the legislation does not establish it.

Ángel Garrido, deceitfully and hypocritically, has always wanted to blame the Government that has already dictated the regulatory framework and that it must apply.

The regulations and the Supreme Court have ratified that there should be a VTC for every 30 taxis, something that is not regulated, as it happens in other autonomous communities that follow the state framework set by the government decree.

Garrido proclaims himself a defender of the unity of Spain, but they have been breaching their constitutional obligations for months and are now willing to break the state regulatory framework, while offering a public contract to the illegal company Uber.

Borja Carabante, councilor for mobility

Madrid taxi drivers are not willing to bear this situation any longer:

«I will go and neither will I bow my head nor will I kneel before the Mobility Councilor, Mr. Borja Carabante, a public employee whose salary my family contributes so that he publicly and without any shame or scruple or shame promises his friend Juan, the from Uber that soon we will be able to compete».

When Borja Carabante talks about competing, we already know that he is referring to allowing Uber to work illegally.

The Lord Councilor, the same one who has proposed to liberalize the taxi sector and that when faced with the sector’s proposals, his only response has been: “If you don’t want to work, don’t work.
