Hamburg (dpa / lno) – With a car parade in the city center, Hamburg’s taxi drivers drew attention to their situation in the corona pandemic on Thursday. A local dpa reporter estimated that around 100 taxis took part in the protest. Much of the corona aid did not arrive, said the organizer of the taxi demonstration. In order to cover the costs, self-employed taxi companies are now on the road for up to 12 hours. The industry is threatened with a wave of bankruptcies.
For many in the taxi industry, applying for short-time allowance is therefore not worthwhile because their companies cannot be rearranged as easily as, for example, in industry. And although the taxi industry is affected by the closure of theaters, the cancellation of trade fairs or the restrictions in the hotel industry, the companies are not – or not enough – an option for many state aid, as the organizer of the demonstration emphasized.
