Taxi drivers from Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona) fight against sexist violence
Since last Tuesday, the vehicles identified with the campaign badge have become support points for possible victims of sexist or lgtbiphobic attacks.
These days, the Santa Coloma de Gramanet City Council has an information point at the taxi rank in the city center to inform taxi drivers of the action protocol if they witness any of these actions.
“They are agents with a presence at night that become a safe and reference space for victims,” explains the director of Equality Policies of Santa Coloma, Maribel Cárdenas.
Apart from taxis, this network includes other night workers, such as pharmacies, parking lots, bars and entertainment venues, the municipal government, cleaning services or gas stations.
In the case of taxis, their involvement is key since, due to the characteristics of the sector, the presence of the network on the street adopts a “multiplier dimension”.
In addition to being this space of refuge, taxis are also moving eyes capable of detecting possible situations of gender violence.
