The Panhellenic Federation of Professional Taxi Car Owners and Marketers, the Associations of Professional Metered Vehicle Drivers of Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Heraklion, Mytilini and the Radio Taxi Association have appealed to the Council of State.
They request that the decision of the Minister of National Economy be suspended and annulled from August 1, 2024, which obliges all taxi drivers to place on the rear right part of the windshield a special sign of dimensions 25×12 which will communicate in Greek and English the possession and use of POS.
It should be noted that the disputed ministerial decision, among other things, provides that the non-placement of the disputed mark on the windshield results in a fine of 1,000 euros.
What do taxi drivers stand for?
In more detail, the appellants at the SC argue that the challenged ministerial decision violates European legislation (directive 2014/45/EU), the Road Traffic Code and does not have a specific and detailed justification.
Finally, they argue that placing the sign on the rear right window of the vehicle creates safety issues, as it obstructs visual control from the driver’s seat, damages the windshield wipers, etc.
