It was late on Saturday evening that a man in his 40s shot at a taxi in Egersund.
Inside the taxi, the driver was sitting with a customer. No one was physically injured, but a window on the taxi was broken.
According to chairman Espen Nilsen of Egersund Taxi, the driver does not want to make a statement. He answers on behalf of the man and the company:
– It is just luck that the driver and passenger were not injured. It could have ended in a murder, this here. The taxi driver is shaken and he is shocked, of course, says Nilsen to VG.
The taxi driver is physically unharmed, but he is still shaken and trembling just over 18 hours after the dramatic incident in Egersund, the chairman says.
Police: I don’t think the weapon was sharp
Operations manager in the South-West police district, Victor Fenne-Jensen, said on Saturday evening that the man must have used a two-handed weapon. According to communications manager Linda Merethe Leifsen in the Sør-West police district, she is informed via police attorney Cecilie Steen that the police’s main hypothesis is that the weapon was not sharp.
After the shooting incident, the police asked people in the area around Egersund sports park to stay inside and lock the doors until the situation was clarified.
– It’s obvious that you don’t expect to be shot at when you’re at work on a Saturday night. Our taxi driver was scared and shocked by the incident, and it is of course very uncomfortable to experience something like that, says the chairman.
Now Nilsen and the other colleagues in Egersund Taxi will follow up the man to the best of their ability.
– We will do what we can for our colleague. It is frightening that this is happening, but we will stand up for him, says NilsenS.

Pleads guilty to part of the charge
On Sunday morning, the police announced that the man had been charged with serious threats.
– He admits guilt for parts of the charge and expresses great remorse, says defender, Vetle André Mitchell Jensen, to VG.
Jensen confirms that the accused is friends with the taxi customer.
