The Bundesrat passed the annual tax law on Friday with extensive tax changes – Bavaria failed with an appeal request to the mediation committee. Bavaria demands adjustment of the deductions for inheritance tax. The background is an adjustment in the valuation of real estate. As a result, heirs to larger estates may face higher costs from January 1st. Bavarian Finance Minister Albert Füracker (CSU) said the changes were necessary due to a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court. But it’s a “back door tax hike.”
