Few people pay their taxes smoothly. But it is time for more taxation on capital, instead of just taxing labor.
You see that a lightly to unregulated sector such as temporary house rental encourages exploitation on many more points. Not only are the homes withdrawn from the housing market, but bad landlords unfortunately do much more
* exploitation of the tenants, the house is presented much nicer than it is, and afterwards all kinds of surcharges and levies are charged.
* exploitation of cleaners, often vulnerable people, by having them use dangerous substances, not providing adequate protection (gloves/mask) and paying minimal wages
* allow negative externalities to be at the expense of the neighborhood: noise pollution, garbage, deterioration due to poor maintenance
The ‘platforms’ are quite hypocritical and give lip service to tackling these kinds of practices, but because they make money from this in the meantime, they don’t really do it seriously.
Fortunately, municipalities have woken up in recent years and are tackling this, but more national (and European) legislation, such as this forced information exchange, can help enormously.
Ultimately, that is how Capone was caught: through the tax authorities!
