Taxation Challenges for Business Handovers in France: Impact of Dutreil Pact

Despite the Dutreil pact, the handover remains handicapped by the weight of taxation.

Business leaders are not immune to the country’s demographic change: like the French, they are aging. Thus, 25% of managers are over 60 years old and 11% over 66 years old, according to a report from the Senate delegation to businesses published in October 2022. Consequently, the highest estimate puts the number of companies at 700,000 , all sizes combined, which will look for a buyer in the next ten years. But the handover is complex because the transmission remains penalized in France by the weight of taxation. An immense challenge at a time when France wants to reconnect with competitiveness and restore letters of nobility to its industry.
