With the aim of “providing peace of mind,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that between January and the first days of September of this year, tax collection has grown 6.2 percent in real terms compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, he added, total revenue for the Public Treasury in these months has been 0.8 percent higher, in real terms, than in 2023.
During the morning press conference on Wednesday, the president presented the tax data – up to September 3 – which highlights that as of this date last year, 3 trillion pesos had been collected through taxes, and currently the figure is 3 trillion 341 billion pesos.
That is, the president highlighted, 440 billion pesos more than in the same period in 2023.
He pointed out that the nominal variation is an increase of about 12 percent, but after discounting inflation, which was 5.6 percent, the real increase is 6.2 percent in this sector.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that the general income at this time last year was 3 trillion 509 billion pesos. “And now we bring in 3 trillion 707 billion pesos.”
The figure, he noted, is 198 billion more. “It is 0.8, almost 1 percent more in real terms, and nominally it would be about 5 percent.”
After announcing these results, the head of the federal Executive stressed: “So, we are doing very well, this is a good indicator. And the SAT has done a very good job, because year after year the income has been increasing, because there is no tax forgiveness, there are no tax privileges and that has helped us a lot.”
He also thanked taxpayers for their trust in fulfilling their tax obligations. “Because before, it was common to say: ‘Why pay taxes if they are going to steal it?’ Now (in his administration) people know that this money is used honestly.”
