[법률저널=안혜성 기자] On the 13th, the 1st exam for tax accountants, which broke the record for the most applications and established itself as the most popular professional qualification exam, was held.

The 60th tax accountant first test in 2023 changed the record for the highest number of applicants ever, with 17,503 applications, an increase of 2775 compared to the previous year, immediately after the application was submitted.

As the number of applicants continues to increase, the competition is getting fiercer. Both the 1st and 2nd exams for tax accountants adopt an absolute evaluation system in which applicants who obtain at least 40 points in each subject and an average of 60 points or more pass.

However, in reality, unlike the first round, which is operated by absolute evaluation, the second round is in fact determined in the form of a relative evaluation in which the minimum number of successful applicants is selected. In other words, if there are a lot of applicants, the possibility of an increase in the number of successful applicants in the first test increases, which eventually affects the second round of competition and pass rate.

If you look at the number of successful applicants for the recent tax accountant 1st exam, △2011 1374 △2012 1429 △2013 2196 △2014 2218 △2015 △1894 △2016 2988 △2017 2501 △2017 △ 3018 people in 2018 △ 2526 people in 2019 △ 3221 people in 2020 were put on the list of successful applicants.

Although there are fluctuations depending on the year, it can be confirmed that the overall trend is showing an increasing trend. However, in 2021, the number of successful applicants plummeted to 1722, which is because the difficulty of introduction to tax law and introduction to accounting has risen sharply.

On the other hand, in a legal journal survey conducted immediately after the end of the exam, 8 out of 10 applicants responded that it was similar to or easier than the previous year. Last year, a whopping 4,694 successful candidates were produced. This is an increase of 2,972 compared to the previous year and is also the highest record in the last 10 years.

As such, due to the nature of the first tax accountant exam, which determines successful applicants through absolute evaluation, the difficulty of the exam along with the size of the applicants is the biggest variable in determining success or failure.

Accordingly, the Legal Journal is conducting a survey to examine the perceived difficulty level of test takers and to hear the opinions of test takers regarding the operation and improvement of the tax accountant test in the future. Candidates for the first round of the exam can click on the banner to participate in the survey.

As last year’s largest number of successful candidates in the first test were produced, the students’ attention is focused on the results of this first test, which will determine the competition rate for the second test to determine the final successful candidates. The announcement of successful applicants to confirm the results is scheduled for June 21st. Then, the second test will be held on August 12th, and the final successful candidates will be announced on November 15th.

On the other hand, last year’s legal journal survey showed that the number of people who scored an average of 60 points or more, which is the passing mark, increased significantly, and the actual number of successful applicants was expected to increase to a considerable extent. As a result of the survey, the number of scores of 60 or more points, which is the passing standard, soared from 59.7% to 90.6% in 2021.

In addition, the number of high scorers with a score of 80 or higher increased from 5.7% to 10.6%, and the number of those with a score of 70 or higher increased significantly from 17.2% to 36.9%.
