Glastonbury Festival, one of the biggest music and art events in the world, has announced the full program of the event, and among this year’s artists is also the name of the Latvian ethnopop group “Tautumeitas”. “Tautumeitas” is only the third band from Latvia to perform at this prestigious festival.
“Tautumeitas” have received an invitation to perform at the Glastonbury festival after a successful start at the European music industry conference – the “Eurosonic” festival in the Dutch city of Groningen. Bojans Pinters, who chooses the band’s “Green Futures” stage for the stage and attended the “Tautumeitus” performance at “Eurosonic”, explains that he was captivated by the band’s strong visual image and the Latvian pagan cultural heritage reflected in the performance: “Within a few minutes, I fell into the unique atmosphere of the performance, which was created “Tautumeitu” music and performance.”
“Tautumeitas” will perform twice at Glastonbury – at the opening event of the festival on June 21 and on the “Toad Hall” stage on Saturday, June 24, shortly after midnight. “Glastonbury festival is the dream of many musicians, so we are excited and have been impatiently keeping it a secret for several months that this year we will not only perform there with a concert, but also be part of the grand opening ceremony of the festival right on the night of the summer solstice!” the leader of the group, Asnate Rancāne, is happy.
Around 200,000 people attend Glastonbury every year. Due to high demand and the festival’s website being busy, tickets for this year’s festival were sold out within an hour. In addition to the main artists of the festival “Arctic Monkeys”, “Guns N’ Roses” and Elton John, this year on more than 50 stages of the festival such world-famous artists as Lizzo, Luis Capaldi, “Fred Again…”, “Royal Blood”, Lil Nas X, “Maneskin”, “The War On Drugs”, Lana Del Rey and many, many more.
It should be noted that at the end of May, “Tautumeitas” performed at the world music festival “Imaterial” in Portugal and concluded the Latvian concert tour of the album “Skrejceļš”, within the framework of which they performed 15 concerts in various Latvian cities. The next concerts of the group in Latvia are expected on June 17 in Kuldiga’s “Kalna pagalma”, July 14 in Jūrmala’s “Raiņa sētā” and July 15 in Līgatne’s “Zeit”, as well as at the Estonian festival “Treskifest” and “Norden Fest” in Germany.
