Thanks to the economic recovery, Thuringia will have to take out fewer loans this year than expected. “In the current year, due to the positive revenue development, we will probably be able to do without a large part of the loan originally planned in the budget in the amount of 288 million euros,” said Finance Minister Heike Taubert on Thursday evening in Erfurt. It reacted to the results of the November tax estimate for federal, state and local governments.

You may even be able to get along completely without borrowing. This would also reduce the repayment obligations.
For the 2022 budget, which is currently being discussed in the state parliament, there were also signs of higher income. Some of them have already been taken into account in the government’s draft budget. Taubert’s ministry had carried out its own tax estimate for the budget for the coming year in the summer. “The results of the tax estimate underline that we planned the budget with realistic assumptions,” said the minister.
Taubert urged caution in spending over the coming years. In view of the pandemic, the tax estimate has a high level of uncertainty. In Germany and especially in Thuringia, the number of infections is currently rising rapidly again. Even without regional lockdown measures, this will lead to restrictions in the globally networked production processes.
The Ministry of Finance wants to provide information about the concrete results of the tax estimate for Thuringia in the coming week.
