Tatum Dagelet would not soon go out on the street without make-up. In conversation with NU.nl, the presenter of the program explains Pretty & Single, in which women go on dates without make-up, that this has to do with her fame.
Dagelet says in the Netherlands never to go to the supermarket without a little mascara. “But especially for parties and occasions where I meet new people, I really do make myself up. I am still afraid that without make-up I look less radiant and people would say, ‘Gosh, she’s less pretty in real life. . ‘”
The presenter started to think more about her own make-up use through the recording of the dating program. “Why do I find it necessary to wear make-up? Am I afraid that people will like me less or even like me? And that they like me less as a result? Nonsense of course.” She thinks the program helps with some self-acceptance by no longer hiding insecurities.
‘A flirt without make-up is an extra big compliment’
Dagelet prefers to walk around with a natural face on holiday abroad. “Then I don’t give a shit and I feel liberated. If someone flirts with me, I think it’s an extra big compliment.”
A first date without make-up, however, is a bit too far for her. “You want to leave a first good, well-groomed impression. And if you are going to be blue without makeup, you might still think: you see, I’m not pretty enough. The fact that I think this says something, because who says that someone doesn’t like me without make-up? Apparently I have those insecurities too. “
She no longer finds it a problem with a second date. “A number of women from the program said they even leave their make-up on when they sleep with a man. Or they get up early in the morning to make themselves beautiful before he wakes up. I’m not going that far.”
