When we say Tatra Phoenix 8 × 8, you will surely understand that we are talking about a car that is intended for operation especially in difficult off-road conditions. And if you add a special hydraulic semi-trailer and a brand-name crane to this car, then a unique combination is created that has no analogues in the world. And exactly such a model was built by the Czech company Partner-Ipex, which you may already know as the builder of the longest Tatras in the world!

The Phoenix, which was created thanks to the collaboration between Tatra and the Dutch DAF, appears in this three-seater configuration with a 12.9-liter Paccar MX-13 diesel engine with an output of 390 kW at 1,675 rpm and a torque of 2,500 Nm, which is already available in 1 000 revolutions per minute. The power unit meets the EURO 6 emission standard, which is why it has a particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction (AdBlue).
The transmission here is strangely not automatic, but manual with 16 forward and two reverse speeds. There is also an additional Tatra gearbox or an auxiliary drive derived from the gearbox, which by means of a hydraulic pump drives both the crane located on the tractor and the hydraulic system on the semi-trailer.

Phoenix also has a powerful crane.
The model with a top speed of 85 km/h wears pure Continental 14.00 R20 off-road tires, which are also used in the Dakar Rally. The equipment also includes independent water heating, air conditioning or a car radio. The fuel tank holds 300 liters of diesel and the auxiliary tank holds 45 liters of urea solution. In addition, the vehicle has an Effer hydraulic loading crane with a reach of up to 17.45 m and a lift of 21.3 t at a distance of 4.4 m or 4.9 and 17.5 m.
However, the curiosity here is the telescopic semi-trailer, which is also intended for demanding off-road conditions. The semi-trailer is fitted with a central support pipe, Tatra swinging semi-axles (!) and suspended by air bellows springs. It is completely unique of its kind. A flatbed body from the Czech body builder ZLT Auto is then placed on the semi-trailer.

The trailer, which was built by Partner-Ipex from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm using Tatra brand parts and components, again has Continental 14.00 R20 off-road tires and, like the Phoenix 8 × 8, a ground clearance of 350 mm.
The trailer with a length of 12,391 mm can also be extended by another 5,809 mm thanks to the telescopic system. If we add the length of the Phoenix itself, which is 8,880 mm, and subtract the overhang of the semi-trailer above the turntable, we arrive at a total length of the vehicle set of approximately 26 meters!

If the tractor is not used in combination with a semi-trailer, it is possible to place a separate flatbed superstructure above the off-road fifth wheel. The tractor can therefore also be operated independently and transport a variety of materials on the loading surface with dimensions of 4,470 × 2,550 × 600 mm.
This world-unique car is mainly used for the transport of pallet and pipe material and its proud owner is the joint-stock company Homola from Ostrava.
