With “Des Anderes Last” the new “Tatort” from Cologne was shown on ARD on Sunday. But the film did not only receive positive feedback.

Cologne – On Sunday evening (December 3rd), the latest case of the Cologne “Tatort” duo Max Ballauf (Klaus J. Behrendt, 63) and Freddy Schenk (Dietmar Bär, 62) was on the air on the first with “The Other’s Last”. . In addition to fantastic ratings, the crime thriller also attracted a lot of exuberant audience reactions – but also received harsh criticism from other quarters.

“Deep story”: ARD audience praises “Tatort” from Cologne

Although the film takes place in the run-up to Christmas, “The Other’s Last” is not particularly festive. At the heart of the plot is a murdered courier driver in a Santa Claus costume whose delivery truck has been looted. What makes the latest case of Ballauf and Schenk particularly sad: It is the last TV role for Dieter Schaad, who died in February 2023 at the age of 96.

Christmas spirit and the last appearance of an acting legend – this combination was extremely well received by many ARD viewers on Sunday evening. “Thank you for this classic ‘crime scene’, which convinces with its plot, the team and its actors,” praises a fan on Facebook, “Good story that fits the times,” another does the same. “Everything was just right,” enthuses one viewer, and another says: “Deep story and exciting ending.”

The “crime scene” phenomenon

Since the first “Tatort” episode “Taxi nach Leipzig” was broadcast on November 29, 1970, the weekly crime series has developed into a true TV phenomenon and brings ARD an audience of millions with each new episode. To date, an impressive 102 investigators have appeared on the successful show – with the Munich duo Ivo Batic (Miroslav Nemec, 68) and Franz Leitmayr (Udo Wachtveitl, 64) recording the most missions. Of the 22 constantly changing locations and teams – including Ludwigshafen, Vienna, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Zurich and Bremen – Frank Thiel (Axel Prahl, 62) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Boerne (Jan Josef Liefers, 58) from Münster was the most popular, as a survey by t-online from 2022 showed.

“Laziness in thinking”: ARD viewers complain about the new Cologne “crime scene”

While the plot and cast of “The Other’s Last” in particular score points with many “Tatort” viewers, others are a lot less euphoric. “A bit thin,” says one fan on X (formerly Twitter), “It has nothing to do with good entertainment,” another agrees. As one crime enthusiast scoffs, the latest Cologne case “can’t hold a candle” to the investigative teams from Kiel and Münster. Another criticizes the screenwriters’ “laziness in thinking.”
