Thanks to Lindbergh’s camera, whose ‘Untold Stories’ exhibition is now underway in Brussels, his career got a big boost. Yet Patitz never really seemed to be part of “the group.” This may partly be explained by her choice of hers not to live in New York or Paris, but in California, where she could be closer to nature.
Also, her beauty had an element of mystery. “Tatjana has always been the European epitome of chic, like a combination of Romy Schneider and Monica Vitti,” recalls Vogue editor Anna Wintour. “She was much less in the spotlight than her peers. She was more mysterious and mature and unattainable. And that had her charm about her.”
“People always said I had a special look, that I didn’t look like anyone else,” Patitz said in 1988. “And that would make me do it.”
