Task Force Team Ensuring Targeted Use of Subsidized Fuel in Jakarta

Jakarta

The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) together with related agencies formed a Task Force Team (Satgas) for Supervision and Monitoring of Subsidized Fuel. This task force was formed to ensure the use of subsidized fuel is right on target.

The subsidized fuel quota that has been set for 2023 is 17 million kiloliters (KL).

Committee member of BPH Migas Iwan Prasetya Adhi said that one of the duties of BPH Migas is to ensure that the distribution of subsidized fuel can be enjoyed by the people who are entitled to it. The fuel subsidy given to certain groups of people is a manifestation of the government’s social responsibility towards its citizens. Given the limited government budget, it is necessary to carry out strict supervision so as not to exceed the set quota.

“We hope that subsidized fuel, whose quota is set at 17 million KL in 2023, will be sufficient until the end of the year,” said Iwan in a written statement, Wednesday (2/8/2023).

Efforts have been made to ensure that subsidized fuel is right on target and volume correct, including using the QR Code and ordering the issuance of recommendation letters for buying subsidized fuel by increasing cooperation with local governments.

“In fact, there are many recommendation letters that still need to be clarified. For example, fishermen need to go to sea, for example, around 20 liters of fuel for 2 days and usually take a day off not to go to sea. But, what happens, fishermen take subsidized fuel every day and then sell it to collectors. This is what we will arrange, working with the regional government and related agencies so that a joint calculation of the needs of each fisherman or farmer is carried out,” he explained.

Formation of the Fuel Supervision and Monitoring Task Force Team is another effort. BPH Migas Committee member Eman Salman Arief explained that this task force consists of representatives from BPH Migas and other related parties, such as PT Pertamina, and is tasked with monitoring subsidized fuel quotas throughout Indonesia.

In addition, mitigation of over quota prevention, especially in areas with potential for abuse such as mining areas, plantations and ports.

“This joint team will intensively monitor TBBM, gas stations, and prioritize monitoring of areas adjacent to mining areas. As is well known, the government has banned the use of subsidized fuel for mining activities,” said Eman.

He added that for monitoring the mining area, he would cooperate with the Mining Inspector.

“We are using the help of regional Mining Inspectors to check whether the vehicles in the mine are using subsidized or non-subsidized fuel,” he added.
