Task Force Pursuing IDR 110.45 T BLBI Debt, Dahlan Iskan: Why Is It Only Now Being Managed?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Dahlan Iskan questioned the assets of debtors and obligors of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) which the current government can still pursue.

“Are the assets that were handed over still problematic? Not yet fully controlled by the director general? Why has it only been taken care of now? Hasn’t it been 17 years?” Dahlan wrote in writing on his personal page, disway.id, Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Dahlan Iskan also questioned why the assets that had been handed over to settle the BLBI debt were not sold around 2010, when the economy was good and asset prices were good. Nor was it sold around 2015 when the economy was still good.

“Actually, we are lucky to still have a finance minister, regardless of the year, the person is still the same. He is the one who knows all that best,” said Dahlan.

Even so, he praised the government’s move to collect Bank Indonesia’s Liquidity Assistance receivables worth more than Rp 100 trillion. Moreover, the pursuit was considered indiscriminate.

He gave an example, when the Task Force for Handling State Collection Rights for the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance Fund, aka the BLBI Task Force, summoned the son of the Second President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto, Hutomo Mandala Putra, alias Tommy Suharto. Tommy finally sent a lawyer to settle the BLBI bill.
