Tartu and the Southern Estonia region will become the European Capital of Culture on January 26 next year. In preparation for the biggest event in cultural life, the organizers of the capital of culture go to Riga to introduce the next year’s program and plans to the neighbors.
Kuldar Leis, executive director of “Tartu 2024” says: “The guiding principle of the “Tartu 2024” program is “Arts of Survival” (Arts of Survival). We are sure that the ability to laugh not only at others, but also at ourselves is both an art and a skill that unites the people of the Baltic States and gives us great strength. How many toes do Latvians really have, what is the average speed of Estonians, will Lithuania’s famous basketball be able to recover from the defeat caused by its brothers from Latvia? There are many unanswered questions about the friendship of the Baltic countries, so “Tartu 2024″ invites everyone to have a good laugh at the Great Baltic Bake, where comedy masters will try to outdo each other in their skills.”
Comedians Rūdolfs Kugrēns and Kalvis Trokša will represent Latvia in the Great Baltic Roast, while Aleksandrs Āri Laupmā will defend the honor of Estonia (Aleksander Eeri Laupmaa) un Maiduks (Maiduk). On the other hand, Luks Bunkus will challenge all neighbors from the Lithuanian point of view (Lukas Bunkus). The Estonian group “Gram-of-Fun” will perform during the baking, and DJ Magnus Eriņš will provide dances. The event will be hosted by actor Toms Liepājnieks.
