Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 1,774 new coronavirus cases and 17 deaths Thursday, in what will be the latest report for 2020.
In this way, the pandemic reaches 172,165 cases since March and 1,628 deaths.
Judge Clay Jenkins explained that of the 17 who died, 10 people were found in their homes and the County Medical Examiner just completed their autopsies.
It is averaging 1,768 daily cases and the contagion rate is at 67.8 positives per 100,000 inhabitants. That is, extremely high.
Hospitalizations in the county indicate that there are 1,007 people in intensive care units and 638 people came to emergency rooms in the last 24 hours with symptoms of Covid-19.
In the City of Dallas, hospital bed occupancy is at 75% and intensive care unit bed occupancy is at 81%, according to the city council report that includes 25 hospitals and highlighted by Mayor Eric Johnson in a tweet on Thursday.
Judge Jenkins also explained that they are working with the DFW Hospital Council and the state Department of Health Services to establish a process to clearly inform when people at risk (phase 1B) can start getting vaccinated.
“Please remember the advice of physicians and avoid celebrating the New Year with people who are not in your immediate family circle,” Jenkins said. “I am sure that the coming New Year will be a great celebration.”
On the last business day of the year, Tarrant County reported 3,116 new cases of coronavirus.
This increase in cases occurs at critical times for the regional health system. In Tarrant, hospital occupancy is at 90% and intensive care unit bed occupancy is 28%.
In total, the pandemic has 150,004 cases in that county and 1,494 deaths. A total of 108,969 would have recovered from covid-19, according to Tarrant’s covid-19 information panel.
