The Montauban judicial court (Tarn-et-Garonne) sentenced a 76-year-old man to a ten-month suspended prison sentence for abuse of weakness on Tuesday April 19, 2022, reports The Midi Dispatch. Between 2011 and 2013, this former banker took advantage of the vulnerability of one of his clients to embezzle several hundred thousand euros from his assets.
A guardianship
Transactions in his favor had been identified when the victim, a 90-year-old retired farmer from Lizac (Tarn-et-Garonne), was placed under guardianship. A withdrawal slip of €56,000 had been discovered, as well as the sale for €65,000 of gold coins belonging to the retiree. Life insurance of €238,000 had also disappeared.
At the hearing, the defendant was heard only on the sale of the parts and the cashing of a check for €70,000, the other facts being prescribed. Without a lawyer, the man first tried unsuccessfully to obtain a postponement, says the local media. He then denied the facts without convincing the judge. The ex-banker will also have to repay the misappropriated sums.
