A work accident took place Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the Siat Group sawmill, in Labruguière, at the level of a machine stacking boards seriously injuring an employee.
Following the blockage of the flow by a badly positioned product, two employees intervened on the stopped and secured machine, “according to the securing procedure for intervention”, specifies the company.
During the intervention, following the removal of the product blocking the process, an arm of the elevator trapped the operator who was intervening. His colleague immediately intervened to assist him and the emergency services were alerted. The 35-year-old victim, seriously injured, had to be airlifted by Samu to the Toulouse University Hospital. His days were dangerous according to first aid. His 48-year-old colleague, himself injured while assisting him, was transported to the hospital in Castres.
“The company has launched an in-depth analysis of the causes that led to the accident,” said the Siat group in a press release. This work will continue in the coming days, with the assistance of the labor inspectorate, occupational medicine and the controller of the Tarn agricultural accident insurance fund. A gendarmerie investigation is also underway. “The measures necessary to support and listen to the staff and relatives of the victims have been put in place, adds the company, which specifies that the site will remain closed until Tuesday. Management and all Group employees are awaiting news from their colleagues.”
