Tarbes. Théophile Gautier at the heart of Europe

After 7 months of work, the Théophile Gautier high school has officially launched the UnioNet project, a European high school digital newspaper.

In the amphitheater of the school, the second, the first NSI (Numerical and Computer Sciences) and above all, a delegation of 5 students and their teacher from the Sierra de Guara high school in Huesca (Spain). “This is the result of the call for projects from the French Presidency of the European Union 2022 (PFUE2022). The partnerships with high schools have been made in relation to the languages ​​taught here”, explains Hélène Francès, professor of English and at the origin of this project. By videoconference, the three other participating high schools: the August-Horch-Schule vocational high school in Andernach (Germany), the Queen Ethelburga’s high school in Yorkshire (England) and the Archimedes high school in San Giovanni in Persiceto (Italy). Each presented their city and their school. A real joint work between European high schools. “Following the call for projects, only two establishments were selected by the Toulouse academy, including ours. We are going to renew this type of action in the future”, specifies Yvon Manac’h, the high school principal.

Since September, European high school students have cooperated to bring UnioNet to life: “We had no less than four meetings by videoconference for training in WordPress, methodology, finding the name of the project or the logo. Everyone was able to make proposals, before a final vote”, adds Hélène Francès.

Officially launched on May 9, the site hosted its first articles, in the different languages ​​of the participating countries and focused on the diversity of European culture for young people.

A day exclusively devoted to Europe

The inauguration of the site was not the only activity of the day around Europe. A video “Dance Europe” produced by the students, conferences and exhibitions “which will be available for some time at the CDI”, indicates Hélène Francès, were on the program. Finally, all the students took part in a quiz of the EUROPE DIRECT Center Auch Gascogne Occitanie. Objective, to learn more about the European Parliament. Enough to project the Théophile Gautier high school at the center of European cultural projects.
