Tarbes Farmers Protest: Demonstrations Against Agricultural Policy and Rising Production Costs

Since the early morning of Wednesday, November 15, dozens of farmers have been circulating in the streets of Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées) to make their anger heard. Like their counterparts in other departments, they denounce the Common Agricultural Policy and the rise in production costs. In town, disruptions are light.

After Auch (Gers), Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne), and Albi (Tarn), it is the turn of the Hautes-Pyrénées farmers to march through the city center to demonstrate. Gathered in Tarbes since this morning, Wednesday November 15, they denounce the Common Agricultural Policy and the profitability difficulties of their farms.

Around sixty tractors are therefore driving at low speed in the streets of Tarbes. Some machines stopped to dump manure, earth or even pieces of wood in front of the main communities. They target in particular the prefecture and the Departmental Territorial Directorate. And denounce their incation.

The demonstration did not cause any particular disruption to road access around Tarbes. The few hundred demonstrators are still blocking the city center and some roads at midday. Without major incident.

On site, some denounce the lack of humanity of the MSA in the face of their requests. Others regret the lack of responsiveness from public authorities. For breeders in the department, it’s even worse: the arrival of MHE, “the cow’s Covid“, has had a major impact on their breeding, with a big risk of selling less.
