In the first trailer for the western “The Harder They Fall”, cool gangsters let the guns do the talking and memories of Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” are awakened. There is also a star show on top …
The tough gunslinger Trudy Smith (Regina King) frees her boyfriend Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) from custody in order to reunite the old outlaw gang. Because it goes into the fight with a rival gang, which is led by Nat Love (Jonathan Majors), at whose side rides among others the tough stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz). Because Nat Love seeks revenge: Rufus Buck murdered his parents …
“The Harder They Fall” is part of the long tradition of being (almost) exclusively black cast Black Western – trumps most of them with a star line-up that is seldom seen. The trailer makes no secret of how many top-class names are gathered here – in addition to those already mentioned in this text, LaKeith Stanfield, Delroy Lindo, Edi Gathegi and RJ Cyler, among others.
In the fall on Netflix
In addition, with the outstanding musical background and graphic design, the trailer naturally awakens memories of Quentin Tarantino and, above all, his western “Django Unchained”. We’ll find out in a few months whether this is also the case in the final film or a style specially selected for the preview. “The Harder They Fall” should come to Netflix in the fall without a precise date and will probably run in cinemas at some festivals beforehand.
There is some evidence that the Tarantino bonds are not just part of the preview. “The Harder They Fall”, produced by the musician Jay-Z and partly set to music, was produced by Lawrence Bender by no coincidence. He was one of Tarantino’s oldest companions, gave today’s cult director his first chance and was involved in all of the director’s films from “Reservoir Dogs” to “Inglourious Basterds” before the break came.
Below we have the original English trailer for “The Harder They Fall” by director and musician Jeymes Samuel aka The Bullitts for you.
