Lydia Tar did it. The gifted conductor has asserted herself in the male-dominated classical music scene and is at the peak of her career. With her orchestra she is planning an eagerly awaited recording of Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. But during the rehearsals, the world of the star conductor begins to falter: not only is her relationship with her concertmaster (Nina Hoss) becoming increasingly complicated, earlier life decisions, accusations and her own obsessions are also threatening to catch up with her.
