TAP Air Portugal Expands US Routes, Connecting Lisbon, Porto, and the Azores
Good news for transatlantic travelers! TAP Air Portugal has announced exciting new seasonal routes connecting Portugal and the U.S., adding more options for both leisure and business travel. Starting next year, travelers can enjoy direct flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles, Porto to Boston, and Terceira Island (Azores) to San Francisco.
This expansion comes on the heels of rising demand for direct flights between these regions, showcasing Portugal’s growing popularity as a travel destination and strengthening TAP Air Portugal’s position as a key transatlantic airline.
“We are very excited to announce the new flights from Lisbon to Los Angeles and from Porto to Boston, as well as the weekly offer of a direct flight between Terceira and San Francisco,” said Luís Rodrigues, President of TAP.
Beginning May 16, 2025, travelers can fly from Lisbon to Los Angeles three days a week (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays), increasing to four flights weekly (with the addition of Saturdays) after May 26. This seasonal service continues until October 25 and is operated by TAP’s modern Airbus A330-900, which can comfortably accommodate 298 passengers.
Meanwhile, TAP is also expanding its reach from Porto, connecting it directly to Boston with flights starting May 14, 2025. These flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays until October 25, and will be served by the fuel-efficient Airbus A321LR, accommodating 168 passengers.
In a move that will benefit the Azorean community living in California, TAP is introducing a weekly stopover in Terceira Island (Azores) as part of its existing Lisbon to San Francisco service starting June 3. This will provide a direct link between the Azores and the West Coast, enhancing travel options for both residents and tourists alike.
"With these new routes, TAP further strengthens its privileged position in the transatlantic connection of Customers who want the best air travel between Europe, the Americas, and Africa," Rodrigues said.
The introduction of these new routes adds to TAP Air Portugal’s already established presence in the US, with existing flights from Lisbon to seven major cities (New York, Newark, Boston, Miami, Washington DC, San Francisco and Chicago) and from Porto to Newark.
