New year, new challenges: energy, motivation and inspiration are required when the opening tournament of the first division standard formation begins on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the circular sports hall in Ludwigsburg. The A-formation of the Göttingen dance team, headed by head trainer Markus Zimmermann, is dancing for the title again.

Most recently, Göttingen won the Bundesliga round in 2020. The 2021 season, on the other hand, was canceled due to Corona. The B-formation, which this time also qualified for the first division, will not start in Ludwigsburg for professional reasons and due to injury. “We hope to be able to compete again from the next tournament on January 22nd in Bocholt”, says coach Christopher Linne optimistically despite his tight squad.

The many setbacks that the corona pandemic has brought dance athletes for almost two years are still reverberating. Most recently, the tense situation at the beginning of December 2021 thwarted their plans: the Braunschweig Dance Sport Club had to cancel the dance world championship of standard formations planned in Braunschweig, as in 2020 – this time only 48 hours in advance.

“This is a major disaster. I can’t say how disappointed I am, ”said Rüdiger Knaack, head coach of the host BTSC. After all, a few weeks earlier his team had become German champions in Bremerhaven in front of the Göttingen dance sport team, and very close. The Göttingen trainer Zimmermann described the failure of the World Cup as “absolutely tragic” from a sporting point of view, after all, together with Braunschweig, the German colors would have been represented.

“Now, unfortunately, we can only hope that at least all of the Bundesliga tournaments can take place this year,” says Zimmermann about the fight against the pandemic. The five tournaments are to start on Saturday in Ludwigsburg, the home tournament is planned for February 5 in the Göttingen Sparkassen-Arena. Certainly there is another tough fight between Göttingen and Braunschweig at the top, like last time at the German championship in Bremerhaven. With “Dancing on the Ceiling”, Braunschweig had big plans – and in the end it achieved its goal.

With the victory at the German Championships Braunschweig danced back on the top podium. Second place went to the Göttingen A-Team with its choreography “Happy together”, a promising good mood program. It was very close to third and fourth place – here, too, the places were swapped compared to the 2019 result: The TSC Rot-Gold Casino Nuremberg took with its new topic “Live the Passion” with a margin of 0.04 points third place ahead of 1. TC Ludwigsburg, who stayed with his last choreography from 2019, “Avalon”.
