Tanzanian Abdulrazak Gurnah wins Nobel Prize for Literature

Many observers thought it was time for a non-Western author to receive the Nobel Prize, because the list of laureates until now was mainly European and male. For Gurnah, an African writer has only been awarded five times, the only black African to date was the Nigerian Wole Soyinka in 1986. He is now 87 and very recently, after almost 50 years, has published another novel.
