Tanzania signs an agreement with a Chinese company on iron ore mining

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Tanzania’s state-run National Development Corporation (NDC) and Fujian Hexingwang Industrial signed an agreement on Saturday for an iron ore project in Maganga Matitu, in Njombe district.

This project, which has a cost of 77.4 million US dollars, aims to produce pre-reduced iron ore which is expected to be a raw material for the steel industry. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Doto Biteko attended the signing of the agreement in the port city of Dar es Salaam.

Mr Biteko said the project would contribute to the country’s economic growth through business development.

NDC Director General Nicolaus Shombe said the operation would cover an area of ​​19.63 square kilometers and would be part of the Liganga iron ore project in Ludewa district.

He said that this project is one of the big projects in the country. It will bring economic benefits by creating jobs and producing the iron needed for many infrastructure projects. END
