Tanya Georgieva was released as Deputy Minister of Agriculture 15 days after her resignation was requested – 2024-08-01 11:21:52

The official announcement from the Council of Ministers states that Georgieva herself requested to be released not from today, but from August 5

Deputy Minister Tanya Georgieva is released from the post Deputy Minister of agriculture and food by order of acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.

She is leaving the ministry as of August 5, the press release said.

It is clear from the information that Tanya Georgieva submitted a request to leave on her own, citing personal reasons as the reason.

We remind you that the resignation of Mrs. Georgieva was requested by the National Association of Grain Producers (NAZ) already on July 17 with a declaration sent to the acting Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, as well as to the President of the Republic. (read about the letter HERE)

The request was also supported by the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber at the moment when around 20 agricultural organizations announced themselves as supporters of the Deputy Minister, who, according to them, is a very good expert and professional – read HERE. Thus again the old two camps in agriculture rose up against each other.

The request for the resignation of Tanya Georgieva was repeated at the NAZ press conference on July 24 (for the press conference – HERE).

Soon after Georgieva’s resignation was requested, Minister Takhov asked Agro TV why the grain producers did not attack the Deputy Minister during the term of Minister Kiril Vatev. He also said that he could not ask for Georgieva’s resignation, as it was a complicated process involving the acting prime minister and the president.

At the beginning of this week, the acting Minister of Agriculture announced that he had requested an opinion from Tanya Georgieva on the grounds for which her resignation was requested (See the motives HERE).

Yesterday, during a blitz-control in the parliamentary committee on agriculture, Georgi Tahov added, among other things, that the deputy minister did not do everything possible to ensure better investment opportunities for farmers in irrigation facilities.

Thus, within two weeks, the farmers’ conflict with Tanya Georgieva developed and led to her resignation.

Tanya Georgieva became deputy minister in July 2023, before that she was the executive director of the Association of Agricultural Producers in Bulgaria.
