The ship, which now sails under the Turkish flag, has its home port in Murmansk in Russia. It shows the vessel overview of the service MarineTraffic.
Police inspector in the South-East police district and head of the unit for border control, Torill Sorte, confirms to VG that they have been on control and expelled the tanker sailing under the Turkish flag.
– The reason why we have been on inspection is that there is a ship that is believed to have been flagged as Russian at one point, which is now flagged as Turkish.
Russian vessels are not allowed to dock at Norwegian ports according to a regulation from the government that came in February, as part of the sanctions against Russia after the country’s President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
If a ship has changed its “flag” after the regulation came into force, it is considered Russian.
– The flag has been flagged too late as Turkish. It is to be considered a Russian tanker.
The ship docked at 10.08am on Thursday according to Marine Traffic. According to Sorte, the ship is carrying petroleum products.
The ship was to be unloaded at 18.00. The tracking service Marine Traffic shows at around 18.30 that the ship is on its way out of the port.
– Basically, we have given them an expulsion order and we expect them to follow the order they have been given, says Sorte.
