Tanker Truck and Car Accident on A58 Highway Causes Road Closure between Heinkenszand and Goes

GOES – An accident occurred this morning between a tanker truck and a passenger car on the A58 highway between Heinkenszand and Goes. As a result, the road is closed at the site, the ANWB reports.

The accident happened at 8:35 am near the Sinoutskerkseweg viaduct. The fire brigade, the police and the ambulance service rushed to the scene to provide assistance. At least one occupant of the passenger car was injured. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital for further examination. According to the Zeeland Safety Department (VRZ), liquid is leaking from the truck. “We are still investigating what exactly is leaking. This may be a hazardous substance, but it could also be water,” said a spokesman.

The accident has now caused some delays. At around 8:50 a.m., traffic on the road between Heinkenszand and the De Poel junction had already stopped over 4 kilometers, according to the ANWB traffic department. The extra travel time was at least fifteen minutes. It is now clear that the highway towards Goes is completely closed. Traffic towards Bergen op Zoom is now advised to follow the movement via the N57, the N255 and the N256. According to the ANWB, traffic that ended up in a traffic jam has to take into account an additional travel time of almost half an hour.

Messages like this become more and more frequent. I hope the cause of the increase will be investigated. As a driver/star you have no recourse according to the Calimero Act. It was around 12 o’clock and I didn’t really feel safe because there was traffic coming in front and behind. I told the driver that I would rather go into the ditch like a fish out of water than be like a block of soya in a sealed package on the road.

After the opening of the Western Scheldt tunnel, keep in mind that this will happen more often. Then half of Belgium drives on the A58.
