The N279 near Beek en Donk was closed in both directions until late on Sunday. There, a tanker, filled with milk, caught fire early in the evening after a collision that also involved a car. The asphalt was badly damaged in the fire.
The driver of the car was taken to a hospital after the collision. The driver of the truck was uninjured in the accident. The road was closed in both directions immediately after the collision. The ANWB then advised traffic to drive via Eindhoven.
More clarity in the course of the evening
Traffic could only use the provincial road at Beek en Donk again after the police investigation was completed. The road also had to be repaired and cleaned.
The fire was reported just after a quarter past six on Saturday evening and the fire brigade fought it with four cars. The fire was brought under control after more than an hour. The people who were in the car and truck were able to get out in time and were checked by the ambulance service.
Road was littered with parts
Police quickly reported that the tanker was not carrying any hazardous materials and that there was no danger of explosion. The collision caused considerable havoc: the road was littered with parts from the two vehicles.
