A trip across the border can be worthwhile in terms of price. But there are upper limits to how much fuel you can transport in canisters. Within Germany, the maximum is 240L divided into reserve containers with a capacity of up to 60L. These must also meet the so-called reserve fuel canister approval, RKK for short.
This is more strictly regulated abroad. In Austria you are only allowed to carry 10L and in Poland up to 20L. In Luxembourg it is completely forbidden. And even when importing more than 20 liters into Germany, a mineral oil tax applies.
High bus fees
If you ignore these rules, you have to reckon with high fines. In addition, tank tourism is only worthwhile when the price differences are high and the transport routes are very short.
Be extra careful when driving. Because fuel is dangerous. It is best to stow and secure the canisters in the trunk.
When you get home, other rules apply. Storage may only take place in small garages. A maximum of 200L diesel and 20L petrol can be stored there.
