Tank duel: T-90 “Breakthrough” will soon face Leclerc, Leopard-2, Abrams –

/ world today news/ The Russian armed forces received hundreds of new tanks and old tanks with “deep modernization” in the missile defense zone.

Dozens of fresh-off-the-line T-90M tanks and deeply modernized T-72B3M tanks have already been sent to the front. In terms of combat characteristics, these tanks are completely superior to the tanks of the NATO countries, which the Ukrainian troops have or will be supplied to them in the near future.

In the West, the T-90M “Breakthrough” battle tank is called a “flying monster”. The “Monster” was created at the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering, located in Nizhny Tagil. They were built at the same place – at Uralvagonzavod.

Externally, the tank is similar to its predecessor T-72. But unlike the “seventy-two”, the “monster” can fly. The T-90 performs this flight all the time – for which it got its nickname.

Outwardly, the trick looks extremely impressive. The space roar crew accelerates the tank to maximum. Then the machine flies on a specially prepared springboard and rises above the ground like a bird.

In flight, the tank fires a cannon at a target and hits it. Then the 46-ton machine lands, throws up clumps of black dirt around itself, spews clouds of black smoke, and as if nothing has happened, rushes further down the route.

The audience groans in delight. And the specialists and professionals watching the stunt dispassionately mentally correct the operation of the suspension and stabilizer of the tank gun.

“In its design, the T-90 is the most advanced tank in the world,” says former tank commander Sergei Protasov, who served two years in a tank training unit in the Soviet Group of Forces in Germany.

— “Weighs only 47 tons. This is 12 tons less than the French Leclerc, the German Leopard-2 and 11 tons lighter than the American Abrams,” he adds.

The side profile of the T-90 is the lowest of these tanks. That is, mounting it on rough terrain will be more difficult. Landability allows not only to hide the tank between the hills of the battlefield, but also to transport it on European railways.

This trick doesn’t work with foreign tanks – they stick to the upper edges of rail tunnels with turrets. For some reason, Western designers did not foresee this moment. Maybe it just wasn’t in the terms of reference.

And with the mass transfer of tanks to the East, another detail in the logistics process surfaced. Western tanks, due to their weight, cannot cross the bridges in Eastern Poland. But for T-90 this is not a problem.

Personally, I see this as a subtle allusion to thick circumstances. That is, our tanks can easily be transferred to the West, where soon there will be no tanks of ours left. And if we take into account that the T-90M received a new V-92S2F engine with a power of 1130 “horses” (the previous one gave only 840), then there are really no obstacles to this.

In general, even the same T-55 is quite a combat vehicle. No wonder they were in high demand in India, Africa and Arab countries. They are still there today.

And soon our designers promise to install an improved Arena-M active protection system on the tank. Detecting with its locator an attacking vehicle, a guided missile or grenade launcher, or the nightmare of all tanks in the world – a sub-caliber tank round, the system fires a beam of striking elements in the direction of the target.

It will stop the launch of the vaunted Javelin or the RPG-7 for sure. As for the subcaliber, its flight speed will be slowed down significantly.

“SP”: And what are the new elements of the T-90M?

– A fundamentally new dome has been installed on the tank. She is easily recognizable in appearance due to her ammo box. He’s in the back. The vehicle received a 125 mm gun. It can even use guided missiles that can engage armored targets and even helicopters at a distance of up to 5 km.

At the same time, the designers increased the internal armored volume of the tower. Additional electronic equipment was placed inside and the crew’s working conditions were improved. The commander now has a panoramic sight and a highly automated Kalina fire control system.

This made it possible to sharply increase the accuracy of fire, reduce the time to prepare the first shot, and introduce an automatic target tracking machine. The tank is integrated into the Sozvezdie-M2 tactical network control system. The Army Internet unites all objects equipped with such complexes on the battlefield in a single information space.

Thanks to this, the tank can receive target designations even for those targets that the crew does not see: the coordinates will come from the command post, drone or other reconnaissance equipment on the battlefield.

“SP”: – With the T-90, everything is more or less clear. But what about the T-72B3M? What are the chips here?

– In my opinion, the main one is the new dynamic protection with homogeneous armor plate “Kontakt-1” and “Kontakt-2”. Saves from portable RPGs, from any cumulative projectiles. Dynamic protection as a whole is purely our, Russian invention.

It is hung in metal boxes and clamped everywhere. In addition, an anti-cumulative grid is mounted on the bumper. When a cumulative projectile hits the armor, the cumulative jet is defocused. And that jet loses up to 90 percent of its penetration. In the T-72B3M, even the exhaust pipe of the engine is covered.

But it’s all poetry. Frankly, something else worries me. It is about the supply of Leclerc, Leopard-2, Abrams, etc. to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

First. Who will operate foreign tanks in Ukraine? A modern tank is a very complex machine crammed with electronics, and they won’t have time to prepare Ukrainian crews for the planned spring offensive anyway. They just burn, that’s all.

So there will be non-Ukrainian crews there? But this will mean that the NATO army has come into direct conflict with us in Ukraine. With far-reaching political consequences.

Second point. Where and how will the Ukrainians advance? As they advanced, they covered themselves with a human shield. Now there is no living shield. And the whole space is shelled by our artillery. Western tanks have worse dynamic protection. And the real hunt for them will begin. Apparently, that is why they are stalling with the offensive.
